Cotswold Golden Path 10mm Dust
Cotswold Golden Path is the perfect solution for footpaths, car parks, and light traffic areas. This self-binding gravel creates a firm, natural-looking surface without artificial binders. Its durability, cost-effectiveness, and warm golden-beige finish make it especially popular in heritage sites, gardens, and environmentally sensitive areas.
How to Use Cotswold Golden Path
Choose this self-binding limestone when you need a solid surface that avoids loose gravel or synthetic finishes. The blend of 10mm limestone down to dust is laid at 75mm and compacted to a final depth of 50mm.
-
Prepare the base
-
Install timber edging to hold the gravel in place.
-
Lay and roll a well-compacted MOT Type 1 sub-base. The heavier the roller, the better the compaction. Ensure the base also allows for drainage.
-
-
Lay the gravel
-
Spread the gravel evenly at 75mm depth.
-
Compact with a vibratory roller or plate.
-
Wet the surface, then roll again without vibration. This seals the surface as the fines fill the voids.
-
-
Design for drainage
-
Add a slight camber or slope so water runs off and prevents pooling.
-
-
Coverage
-
One tonne of gravel covers approximately 8m² at the finished depth.
-
The final surface typically shows a scattering of loose chippings over a smooth, compacted base, creating a natural and understated finish.
Maintenance Tips
Keep your Cotswold Golden Path in top condition with simple care:
-
Regular upkeep: Sweep occasionally with a soft broom to clear leaves and debris.
-
Repair potholes: Remove a neat area around the damage, replace with fresh gravel, roll, and water-roll to blend with the existing surface.
-
Weed control: Avoid pulling weeds, as this loosens the compacted gravel. Use a water-based weed killer instead.
Resurfacing
Over time, refresh your Cotswold Golden Path by removing the top 25mm of gravel. Discard this layer, spread a fresh layer of gravel, and roll it according to the original laying method.
